Have you ever wished... That I'd come home one day?
It was dark outside the rain hadn't let up for hours, where had he been? He wasn't sure. He was back home. He didn't really know how he managed to get back. He was beyond worn. He was battered and bruised and now bore the battle scars of his small fluttering escapades.
They seemed like nothing but a dream.
This seemed like nothing but a dream.
He was stumbling. Weary and tired to the only place he could actually think of to go to. Winry his automail was in the worst shape it had ever been, it was a tiny bit too small for him now, needed replacing, there were bits missing, it was starting to rust, was a little dented. Over all it was utterly messed up. Ruined. He could move it yes but not without being in extruciating angonizing pain that brought tears to his eyes. His automail leg he had to move. He had no choice unless he wished to collapse and crawl even then he'd have to move his automail arm so in the end it all became utterly pointless.
He gave a groan as he lifted his metal arm to the light of the moon that kept getting blocked by the numerous rain clouds. Was that blood or rust? Didn't matter either way he still needed to get all of this stuff changed. The whole thing needed refitting that meant a lot of pain. He deserved it though, it was his punishment for what he had done so long ago and served as a constant reminder.
Managing to find his way to the gate he opened it and let himself in. A dog was barking. After all this time, that dog still remembered him? Edward had a black eye, a few scratches a head wound and he was feeling sick because it had been days since he last ate anything.
A knock on the Rockbell's door. A thud as he finally after weeks of just wandering collapsed on their doorstep and golden eyes were dull from he sort of brain dead state he was in. If you tried to talk to him, you wouldn't get an answer, it was like either talking to a zombie or a person in a coma only he was walking around on two feet.
A sigh was released as he heard a door open and he managed to get to his feet, shirt torn and tattered, hair matted and tangled, no hair tie. What had happened to him? What wars and battles had he faced? He wasn't likely to share what had happened. He just stood there.
"I'm... Sorry... I... Didn't write........" A grim smile managed to break through the almost broken alchemist. So now he awaited an answer from whoever opened the door to him.
Of course he did expect a wrench to fly at him when Winry saw him, he missed her so much whilst he was away. Please. Oh God please let her be okay. Alphonse, Edward wondered about him too, what would his younger brother be doing now? Would he be doing alchemy? Still? Edward had thought about giving it up and now he was opposed to the military, please don't let Al be one of the state. Please. That was the one thing Edward didn't want for his brother to be a military dog and used as a pawn in their stupid game of chess. He didn't want to lose Alphonse as well....

It was late and the house was quiet again. Dinner over, no more mechanical tweaking, and even Ben was laying down. Winry sighed and picked up her coffee mug leaning herself on the counter top as her eyes lots focus. How long had it been since she'd seen the Elric brothers? Alphonse at least wrote every so often, and even dropped in once since he joined the military. But Edward... What had become of him? It was something she nearly always went back to, her mind could never settle on anything else when she had time to think to herself.
Since her grandmother's death Winry lived alone in her childhood house. There really wasn't much for her here other then the hope of new automail customers, and maybe even a prized old customer drop in. Was that why she didn't leave when she got the opportunity to have a big shop in the city? The house was a meeting ground, it was where they knew where to find her. And if she had ever missed them Winry would have never been able to live with herself.
Just then Ben woke up and instead of just lazying around he ran to the door and began barking. "Ben I'm sure no one is here... It's two late for visitors silly!" Winry said setting her coffee down as she tried to quiet Ben. But she didn't know how terribly wrong she really was.
knock knock....*THUMP*
Someone was here. Winry panicked and her mind began to race. Was it him? Which one? Al or Ed? She couldn't help but get her hopes up for the Brother's, but so many times she had been let down. Something about how Ben was acting however told her he knew the person outside her front door. It was a friend. So quickly opening the door she saw him. And a sight he was.
Tears flooded Winry's eyes as he spoke, "Of course you didn't write you stupid..." She muttered and whipped her face, though more tears fell. Edward Elric was standing in her door way and all she could do was cry. "Where have you been..." She whispered and pulled him into a hug, forgetting how badly beaten up he had looked.

"Of course you didn't write you stupid..." She was crying and he felt like hugging herif only his body didn't ache so much then that would be fine.
"Where have you been..." Whispered words fell on his ears and then he was pulled in to a hug, his one good arm slipped around her waist.
"Ngh..." The only sign that he really hurt as he hugged Winry, he closed those golden optics only to sigh and then almost pass out.
"Winry... I'm..." He stopped midsentence as he wobbled, he was about to collapse and he was forcing himself to stay conscious and standing.
"Can I come in? It's cold out there..." He managed to smile again and even laugh a little. The hone blonde just stood there now, he was waiting for her to either push him away or to welcome him in. Besides he needed new automail and she was the only person he really trusted to do a good job with it, she'd probably notice any second now just how bashed up it was. Then she'd yell at him for not keeping it in good condition and he'd simply laugh it off. Like old times...
He missed those days when everything seemed so much easier than it was now.

Winry let go of him when she realized her hug was for the worse. "I'm sorry Ed..." She said hurriedly her hands were still on his shoulders, "Oh! Yeah come in, heh, I didn't mean for you to stand out here so long...." She started and stepped out of the door way. Ben her three legged, one automail limbed dog also moved out of the way and wagged his tail barking once as a welcome.
Though normally Winry's attention would have gone straight to Edward's condition the lighting of her front porch didn't exactly show the full extent of what happened to her childhood friend. Once he had taken to the light of the front room her eyes finally took it all in. Words formed in her mind but what came out was a mess of everything she wanted to say. The mechanic in her was trying to get out how reckless he treated her masterpiece on his body. The friend on the other hand was panicking on how badly injured he looked. And finally the girl she kept hidden away was hyperventilating on how it took him to get into this condition to come to her for help.
After a moment of muttering worry Winry finally formed a word. "EDWARD!!!!!!" She screeched making sure he made his way to the couch.

"I'm sorry Ed..." He shivered from the cold, how many days had he been without sleep? How many days had it been since he had somewhere safe that he could just lay his head down and sleep knowing someone wasn't going to try and stick a knife in him?
"Oh! Yeah come in, heh, I didn't mean for you to stand out here so long...." He walked in, he looked so pale, and then the look on her face made him die a little inside. He bore a soft grin as he then frowned.
"EDWARD!!!!!!" She made sure that he made it to the couch and the minute he sat down his head lolled back and he passed out. He was just that tired that he didn't even have time to say he was sorry and thank you.
Instead he just fell asleep, and winced with every little tiny movement he made, the automail was hurting like hell even in his sleep.
((Sorry for the short reply))

Winry fell to her knees at the side of the couch where Edward seemed to of just dropped dead at if she didn't know any better of it. Winry hung her head, how did this happen to him? What thing attacked Edward to the point for him to be this baddly beaten? And look at his automail! Her head lifted and she sighed hoping the reason he came back was because he knew this was also his home. A safe place, not just his mechanic's workshop.
"Edward... you're always doing this..." She said softly brushing a bit of his blond hair from his face. Then without realizing it something took over Winry and she was able to bring herself away from him. Her mind was on auto pilot as she grabbed rags and bandages.
Winry started off just washing his face and putting some bandages along the cuts she could see. But something brought her to go further, and by the time she was done with him Edward lost his automail limbs (which had been put into her workshop room to see if anything could be salvaged) and his chest was cleaned and bandaged best she could manage. It took her half the night but something drove her to stay awake until she couldn't do anymore herself.
Though she ended up falling asleep with a rag in her hand stained with blood, and still sitting next to the couch so the first thing her patient would see when he woke up would be the one who took care of him.
* * *
Morning came and Winry slept right through it birds chirping and all.

Al was at the train station before the birds had started to sing there songs. It was a cold, windy day in Central where Al had his small house. He was at the train station on this dark morning because he was going to go see his old friend Winry, he wasn’t sure why but something was telling him to go.
Al stood there at the train station pulling out his watch looking at it. "The train is late" he muttered to himself and put the watch back in his pocket he looked up pulling his black coat tighter around him a mother cat and her kittens walking across the tracks.
A loud whistle could be heard in the distance as the train arrived at the station. The sun was peaking out over the hill tops far to the east. Al got on the train and took his seat in one of the back cars. He had been offered a first class ticket for being a state alchemist of his caliber but he didn’t like to get special treatment.
Soon after he got his seat and the man got all the tickets the train started moving. He was on his way…back to the home he had left where he first lost his body…and his brother lost his limbs. The place where his mother died and his dad left them, the place where his best friend lived and he always had a home. He didn’t know how a two places so close could have so many bad memories and so many good memories

Eyes still closed he tried to move his right arm, nothing, maybe the automail had finally just given out on him after crawling back home. So he moved his left arm hand moved to his face, why did he feel so cold? He rubbed his face and felt something fuzzy and soft so he opened his eyes. He looked at his hand, a bandage was around it. When did that get there? He looked at his arm, wait a second he had no shirt on, what happened the rag he called a shirt? Where did it... Winry, now saw her and then he realised what had happened.
Even though I never wrote, even though I didn't even give you any sign that I was still alive... Even when I come crawling back here after everything, you always sort me out... You're always there.... The words went through his head as he gave a soft smile, the only reason was because no one was there and she was still asleep.
How long did she spend cleaning me up? He frowned, he didn't deserve someone like her. A heavy sigh as he leant forwards and slipped the bloodied rag from her finger tips, he aimed for somewhere to throw it and then tossed it and it landed on a side out of the way.
Then a hand was placed on Winry's shoulder an he gave her a gentle shove, probably high time he woke her up, he could always just sit and watch her sleep for a while, but that would be a little weird. She'd probably whack him on the head with a wrench if he let her over sleep.
"Winry... Winry wake up... Thanks.." [/i] He whispered to her he didn't want to startle her, God if he startled her awake he'd probably end up with a broken nose on top of all the wounds he had. That, just wouldn't be very good at all. [/center]

Winry's dreams hadn't been the least bit nice to her, she kept having play by play images on how Edward had gotten in this state. But something called her back away from the horrible video she was sitting in and watching over and over again. A voice, it was familiar but something was muddled about it. Slowly it got clearer and the play by play seemed to be vanishing, dimming out into another image. This one was much more pleasant, it was her two favorite people. Edward and Alphonse Elric sat next to each other and were waving for her to come to them. But what Edward said didn't make much sense to her "Winry... Winry wake up... Thanks.."
Thanks? Thanks for what... What was he talking about? All she wanted was to go sit between them and give them big hugs before she attacked them with tough love on how they never write or visit anymore. But then the image was gone. Everything was gone.
Blue eyes slowly opened and her voice was still groggy from the little sleep she did get that night. Looking around she remembered everything the frightening image of Edward's condition, how she stayed up late and cleaned him up, and that she had fallen asleep next to him. "Ed..." She said softly looking up at him as she sat up straight. A soft smile formed on her face for a moment, then another part of her took over.
"WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN!!!!" She shouted at him the caretaker in her had been used up the night before, and now his worried friend and mechanic was in charge. "Did you SEE the condition of your arm and leg?! Do you have any IDEA on how much work i put into that last set at all!" She was fuming with how he treated everything she gave him, so reckless with his life. "And what the HELL have you been doing all this time? My god if you would have seen yourself last night i think you would have just died right then!"

"Ed..." He managed to give her a smile, he was about to give her a hug actually but then his eyes widened as she started yelling at him.
"WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN!!!!" At first he had the urge to yell back but instead he just sat there and listened, if he yelled back then hell she might bring out that wrench, he hated that wrench. He just hated wrenches in general since they always reminded him of her whilst he was away.
"Did you SEE the condition of your arm and leg?! Do you have any IDEA on how much work i put into that last set at all!"
"No-Not my fault!...." He put up hands and gave a grin, an appologetic grin but the girl continued.
"And what the HELL have you been doing all this time? My god if you would have seen yourself last night i think you would have just died right then!" He looked to one side, he looked down, that actually hurt a little remembering how he had to crawl back here. How even though it hurt so much he managed to make his way back to this place.
"... I got in a little bit of trouble whilst I was away... I'm not part of the military anymore I gave it up... I still haven't actually gone and handed in my resignation papers and so I'm down as AWOL... I'm in a hell of a lot of trouble when I get back to Central..." He explained that much, the rest he'd shield her from, she didn't need to know about the raging battles he'd gotten in to, the stress he'd been under or the fact he was basically a wandering wreck. He wouldn't tell her about that, it'd hurt her and that was one thing he didn't want to do.
"... So... Seems like you missed me then!" He joked, he gave her a goofy grin and a laugh, so he'd gone in to that mode where he just changed the subject and he looked around.
"...Um... Where's Pinako?...." He blinked, he looked surprised actually that the old lady wasn't here. Eye's shifted around the place he was waiting to hear the woman scold him for not writting or calling. Nothing. He frowned. He looked at Winry.
"......" He stayed silent, what had happened whilst he was away? He'd missed so much and now the shock of this might drive him to actually leave again after he got some new automail of course.
