Interviewer: Good evening. Please sit down. What is your name Mr…?
Thoron: Thoron Quesse.
Interviewer: And what is your current age?
Thoron: 169 years. Do you wish to know the exact number of days?
Interviewer: *raises an eyebrow slightly* I think that will be unnecessary. Sex?
Thoron: I… I don’t really have it that often, I mean…
Interviewer: For crying out loud! I mean what is your gender???
Thoron: *gaze* What stupid question is that? Male of course! Cannot you see that?
Interviewer: I have some rules I have to follow. Very well, from your age I guess you are not a plain human being, am I right?
Thoron: What is this, some kind of interrogation?
Interviewer: No, it is a mere interview. I ask, you answer. But you are free to leave anytime, if it is your wish.
Thoron: *frowns* No, I am completely fine. Your assumption was right, I am a homunculus.
Interviewer: I see. Very well, I guess you are with the homunculi group then, aren’t you?
Thoron: You are wrong, I am free and independent. I follow nobody; I just pursue my own goal.
Interviewer: Since you are a homunculus, I presume you are not capable of performing alchemy, correct?
Thoron: *nods*
Interviewer: But you surely have some special ability, being an artificially created human?
Thoron: *smiles for the first time* Well of course I do. I command the animals, birds and beasts!
Interviewer: You command them…? How?
Thoron: You see, I communicate with them using telepathy. I exchange my thoughts with them, and give them orders. I can break will of any animal and force it to do my bidding. None can resist me.
Interviewer: When you are talking about animals, you also mean the fish, reptiles and insects?
Thoron: For fish and reptiles yes, I have no trouble reaching their mind, but insects are a special case. They don’t have animal intelligence, so the only insects I can command are the whole nests of collective insects, like ants or bees…. yet I cannot command any individuals, only their whole society.
Interviewer: Very interesting indeed… Do chimeras fall under your sphere of influence?
Thoron: Only animal chimeras, there must be no human involved.
Interviewer: Do you have any other special ability aside of this?
Thoron: Nothing really worth saying. I can read, write, walk… you know… the usual stuff.
Interviewer: If you get engaged into a combat, how do you battle? What is your fighting style and your weapon?
Thoron: As you have probably guessed, my beasts fight for me. And for all purposes I carry a spear Aranel. It is a masterpiece, two metres long, made from the hardest wood of the unknown forest in the south; its headpiece is made from the finest steel, which glitters on the sun as thousands of diamonds. It is light, yet strong, and it can pierce through the hardest armor, be it iron or even stone. It is the most perfect weapon any…
Interviewer: Yes, thank you, you can cut the waffle; I have heard all I need to know. Alright… what is your relationship status?
Thoron: Single.
Interviewer: No girlfriend, or some other…?
Thoron: I said I’m single.
Interviewer: Fine by me… What about your family members?
Thoron: They are all dead, died a long time ago. I am a homunculus, you know?
Interviewer: Yes, I guess that makes sense. Now one question about animals. Do you keep some of them with you? I mean, as your animal companion?
Thoron: Sadly… I cannot control them for long, or I would have had an army of them. No, none travels with me.
Interviewer: You didn’t speak of this, when you were describing your ability.
Thoron: I say it now, alright? I can control only about ten animals, and for a maximum time of about one or two hours. Then I have to rest, it is really an exhausting activity and I cannot keep my mind focused forever.
Interviewer: Is that all about your ability? Or you have another surprise ready to give me?
Thoron: That is all you need to know.
Interviewer: Very well, Mr. Thoron, we are coming near the end of our interview. Could you now describe your appearance?
Thoron: You are looking straight at me! Why the hell do I need to talk about it?!
Interviewer: Look, Mr. Thoron, you are not making this easy for me. Could you just do it, please?
Thoron: Fine… Fine! Pheew… I am 6 feet tall, slim figure, appearance about 30 years old. Long dark brown hair, no facial hair, brown eyes. I wear clothes in the colour of Mother Earth… that is mainly brown, but also dark green or even black. But there is no special sign on my body; you could mistake me for any human being that crosses your path.
Interviewer: That is enough, I guess. What about your personality? How would you characterize yourselves?
Thoron: Do you think I can tell it in an objective way? Luckily, I have a report from a psychiatrist that studied me some time ago. Listen. *takes out a small paper and starts reading*
“Patient 45 has a calm personality, with a strictly neutral thinking. His will doesn’t show much care for compassion or empathy, but also exhibits very little of selfish behavior. He often talks about some “Mother Earth” with such an obsession that almost frightens me. He believes in natural balance in the whole Universe and thinks that he is here to help to preserve it. But on the whole, he seems to have gain inner-peace, yet he is always cautious. He doesn’t trust anyone easily. He has a high amount of tolerance and respect towards life. His way of thinking is mostly serious and has a little place for jokes. But sometimes behaves almost cynically. I think he is not dangerous to the society and may be released soon enough.”
*hides the paper back to his pocket* That is all I have to say.
Interviewer: Mostly interesting… that I have to say. Well, I have one last question for you. Tell me about your background… what happened until now?
Thoron: *sighs* There are some painful memories there. And I remember very little from my human life. But I shall tell what I know. I was born in the Eastern city into a family of a wealthy merchant. Good father, beautiful mother, younger brother, those were the happy times. But something happened. War happened when I was 32. Our family was killed in it and the only one who survived was my brother Nicolas. Don’t stare on me like that, yes, even I died. I was no soldier, but I did all I could to defend our home. I got shot in head and died miserably.
But 169 years ago, I came back to life. Suddenly I have awoken from the long sleep and found a letter… from my brother. He was dying of some illness and had no better idea that to sacrifice himself to bring me back… in this form. Yes, he was a very powerful state alchemist, called the Death Alchemist. He was supposed to win the war with the East in the end… or so I’ve heard. Well, in his death he granted me this ability of eternal life. He left me a handful of red stones for me to feed on, but I am careful with using them. I have only a small amount of them left. But they are sufficient in keeping me alive.
It didn’t take me long to find out about my ability and what is the meaning of the word homunculus. Nicolas left me some books for me to study… well and I had a lot of time to read them. What I was doing from then until now? Nothing really important, I never got involved into big things, I just wander throughout the world and try to keep balance in the nature, but it is the difficult job. Humans are everywhere and I want to lay low. You see, my ultimate goal is to find the Philosopher’s stone. With it, I would have enough power to set things right. Keep the order, keep the balance. But the problem is, I am no alchemist and I have little information about the Philosopher’s stone, so it is a passive search. But I have enough time. And I have patience.
Interviewer: That is all you want to say?
Thoron: I think I said everything that is important. And I don’t remember most of things anyway. Homunculus or not, I am getting old.
Thoron: Thoron Quesse.
Interviewer: And what is your current age?
